Questions & Answers
Grace@work leader Cortney Alexander tackles many common questions that people both new and experienced in their faith ask about Jesus, the Bible, and the nature of God.
How does God feel about sin?
In this video, Grace@Work leader Cortney Alexander answers the question of “How does God feel about sin?”
We hear a lot of different opinions about how God feels about sin these days, even within the church. Some say that while sin angered God in the days of the Old Testament, he feels differently about sin now—that these days, sin just breaks God’s heart because sin breaks people. While that might sound appealing at first, when we think about it, I think we’ll find it doesn’t sound so good after all.
Can I have Jesus as Savior without first accepting him as Lord?
In this video, Grace@Work leader Cortney Alexander answers the question of “Can I have Jesus as Savior without first accepting him as Lord?”
Many people like the idea of being saved from their sins, especially the idea of avoiding endless punishment in hell. And if accepting Jesus as Savior will save them from that fate, then they are happy to accept Jesus as Savior. We can understand that—it makes a lot of sense. People should desire to be saved from their sin, including from the eternal consequences that God warns will come to those who remain in their disobedience to the gospel of Jesus. But many people who desire to be saved from the consequences of their sin are less enthusiastic about embracing Jesus as Lord. In our culture, we don’t use the term “Lord” much, so let’s talk about what that means.

When did we get the Bible?
In this video, Grace@Work leader Cortney Alexander discusses exactly when we got the Bible.
It’s sometimes said that the Bible didn’t exist until hundreds of years after Jesus’ resurrection. The story often goes that some church leaders eventually got together and picked which books they liked and excluded others they didn’t like as much. This idea has been promoted in recent years by some popular movies and novels. But since these movies and novels are works of fiction, it’s not surprising that they’re better at telling a good story than a true story.
What is the Biblical view of women?
In this video, Grace@Work leader Cortney Alexander discusses the Bible’s high view of women.
Some people believe that the Bible promotes a low view of women. Maybe they’ve heard that the first woman, Eve, was created to be a helper suitable—or corresponding—to the first man, Adam, and have a misimpression about what that means. The fact that God created woman to correspond to man doesn’t mean that woman was created to be some sort of domestic servant for man. Instead, the Bible conveys a high view of women from its very first pages.

Will heaven be boring?
In this video, Grace@Work leader Cortney Alexander discusses whether heaven will be boring.
The apostle Paul instructs followers of Jesus, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Col. 3:2). Paul was telling us that we should focus on our eternal destiny rather than our immediate circumstances in this life. That takes diligence for any of us. But it will be particularly difficult to focus our attention on eternity if we have no idea what that will be like. Or if our only concept of heaven involves a bunch of bored-looking babies sitting on clouds playing harps. So what does Scripture tell us about eternity?
